This is an authentic reproduction of the medieval helmets worn by the Hoplite - the warriors of Ancient Greece.
This helmet originated in Greece in the 7th Century B.C. and was later adopted by the Romans. It was a popular style all the way up to the 4th Century B.C. and was the basis for many Helmets of the Renaissance Period.
These medieval helmets were designed to be close-fitting. Shaped to the skull with only small openings left for the eyes, nostrils and mouth. This design allowed for maximum protection, visibility and air flow. And it must have been a terrifying sight to the enemy.
This helmet is made of hand-forged 16 gauge, low carbon, A-36 mild steel. This metallurgical composition provides excellent resilience, durability and will polish to high sheen.
